This Post

Last Week we created a Facebook Post to encourage people to pray for VBS. We are encouraging people to take the time to Pray and leave a comment on this post. In the comment portion of this post we are listing ways people can pray for VBS.

The largest evangelical event most churches do all year is VBS. This year we have just 2 desires.

  1. We desire that God will be glorified by the time and effort we put into VBS.
  2. VBS will be an on-ramp to the Gospel for those that are far from God

So, please Join u in praying for VBS, and leave a comment (or several comments) about ways you are praying for VBS. Click here to begin praying.

Legacy

GALogo

Last night I was reminded of where I come from.

I had the unexpected opportunity to attend a meeting and catch a glimpse of where Louisiana Baptists, specifically the Women’s Ministries, are focusing on for the future. Their focus is to teach missions. This is nothing new for the WMU. They have been teaching little girls to live out the great commission since 1888. I am a part of that legacy.  I have been fortunate enough to learn from wonderful women.

I was reminded that we are supposed to live “missions”.  All Christians are called to serve. When we are talking to our boys, the big question is always “Are you showing love?” That’s really what missions is all about, Love. Showing the Father’s love to hurting people. Hurting people are everywhere: China, Montana, Louisiana, the Military, your church, and your home. Love them because God sent his Son to die for them.

My prayer is that as I teach a new generation of G.A’s about missions I can continue this legacy.

GA Pledge: “As a GA, I will do my best to live a missions lifestyle that honors God by learning about missions, praying for missions, giving to missions, doing missions, and participating in the work of the church.”

“The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must treat people fairly. You must love others faithfully. And you must be very careful to live the way your God wants you to” (Micah 6:8 NIrV).

John 1:1

I love the Bible. I truly believe it is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword(Heb4:12). The Bible transforms lives. One of my favorite Books of the Bible is the Gospel John. This simple verse so profound that understanding it will marks your life forever.

John 1:1 (NASB95)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

At the point which time as we know it began was the Word (λόγος in the greek) and the Word (λόγος) was there with God, and Word was (λόγος) in fact, God.

To is earth-shaking concept! It was very important to the greeks  Λόγος, was a very important concept in Hellenistic culture, as explained by many scholars (like this one). In a very dualistic culture John is laying it out up front that there is no separation between God and Christ. Ιn fact this λόγος the ultimate knowledge, is God. And oh by the way, God is Christ.

It is also a a very important concept today.  Here is a brief definition from the Dictionary of Biblical Languages With Semantic Domains;

3364 λόγος (logos), statement, that which is said, speech, the act. of speaking, gospel, the content of what is preached about Christ, treatise, systematic treatment of a subject, Word, Message, a title for Christ, reason, a cause for something.

The Almighty Maker of Heaven, and Earth is God and God is Christ. They are not separate.   He who made humanity from the dust of the earth and breathed life into us is the same loving God who sent Christ and created a way for redemption .

WOW! Rich stuff. Thank you Dr. Stevens for teaching Greek.

I am studying Greek this semester, and I pray the original language deepens my love for the scripture.

Freedom isn’t free

Freedom always has a cost. Freedom is earned by someone putting their life on the line. Today we celebrate the freedom that was earned by the great men and women fought our nation’s battles. These brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Citizens and Families fought, bled, sacrificed, and even died, for our personal freedoms. Today we honor them.

Lets not forget:
